Welcome to Ure, one of the oldest fishing villages on Veståvgøy!
The history of Ure stretches back to the 1500s, when settlement, registered fishing and fishing trips were documented at this location. In the 18th century, the harbor pulsed with life during the fishing season, and trading activities abounded.

Before the last world war, Ure was among the largest and best-known fishing villages in Lofoten. In winter, 60-70 fishing boats were firmly anchored, and on stormy days the number could rise to 150 boats in the harbour. Ure was a center for activities with cafes, telegraph and trade throughout the year, and property rights were traditionally linked to one or a few private individuals.
Located in the far west of Vestvågøy, at the mouth of Storfjorden with rocks to the east and Stamsund slightly to the northeast, Ure provides a picturesque backdrop. The harbor area is sheltered by islands and islets, which provide protection against the worst weather from the Vestfjord.
